UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn Staters who serve or have served in the U.S. armed forces are invited to submit a profile of service for an opportunity to be featured online and in the community.

The profiles are a part of the University’s 12th annual Military Appreciation Week, which kicks off Oct. 28 at the Penn State military appreciation tailgate and game against Indiana University. The events continue through Nov. 11

The profiles may be published on the University’s Military Appreciation website and featured on banners in downtown State College during the month of November. Individuals are encouraged to share their own stories of service. Family members and others are also encouraged to submit a profile on behalf of any Penn Stater who currently serves or has served.

To submit a free profile and to read current profiles of service, visit Penn State’s Military Appreciation website.

Honor loved ones with a banner

The Downtown State College Improvement District is partnering with the Penn State Military Appreciation Committee for community members to honor their military heroes with a personalized lamp-post banner. Individuals and businesses have the opportunity to purchase a banner to highlight their loved ones.

Each banner will be displayed in downtown State College during Military Appreciation Month. Banners will be installed in late October 2023 and will remain on display for the entirety of November 2023 and again in November 2024.

Banners are $350, of which a portion of the proceeds will support the Penn State Military Student Fund scholarship program, which provides assistance to active service members, veterans and their dependents pursuing a degree at Penn State. To purchase a banner, complete this short form by Aug. 15 or email downtown@downtownstatecollege.com with questions.

Seats for Servicemembers

Through Penn State’s Seats for Servicemembers program, supporters can provide an opportunity for a service member to attend the Oct. 28 game by purchasing a ticket to be donated. Donated tickets are $35 and can be purchased online or by calling 1-800-NITTANY.

This year’s Seats for Servicemembers ticket program has been updated to give more families the opportunity to attend by offering 2 free tickets and a parking pass to those who have served or are currently serving in the military. Former and current service members will be able to purchase additional tickets at a discounted price of $35 per ticket. This year, the number of additional tickets available to purchase will be limited to 4 tickets per person.

Those who are allocated football tickets for this year’s Military Appreciation game and do not use them will not be eligible for complimentary tickets to future Penn State Military Appreciation sporting events.

Servicemembers can request tickets on Aug. 29th. More information on ticket requests will be shared with the public soon.
