STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that drivers in State College should expect travel delays Aug. 10-Aug. 14 as paving along Atherton Street takes place.
Delays could be significant as work will take place during daylight hours Aug. 10-12, followed by 24-hour/around-the-clock work on Aug. 13 and 14. Lane restrictions will be in place during this work and traffic volumes through the area are heavy. Drivers are encouraged to find an alternate route and avoid this area during paving operations.
Monday, Aug. 10: Milling and paving will take place in the right lane eastbound from Colonnade Way to North Atherton Place. Milling and paving will take place in the right lane westbound from North Atherton Place to Colonnade Way.
Tuesday, Aug. 11: Milling and paving will take place in the left lane eastbound from Colonnade Way to North Atherton Place. Milling and paving will take place in the left lane westbound from North Atherton Place to Colonnade Way.
Wednesday, Aug. 12: Milling and paving will take place in the turning lanes eastbound from Colonnade Way to North Atherton Place. Milling and paving will take place in the turning lanes westbound from North Atherton Place to Colonnade Way.
Thursday, Aug. 13: During morning hours, milling will take place in the right westbound lane from Aaron Drive to North Atherton Place. During afternoon hours, milling will take place in the right, eastbound lane from North Atherton Place to Aaron Drive. Paving along this section will begin at 7 p.m. The right, westbound lane will be paved first, followed by the right, eastbound lane. Traffic will not be permitted to cross newly laid asphalt until material has cooled. Lane closures will be left in place overnight until line striping can be completed.
Friday, Aug. 14: During morning hours, milling will take place in the left and center westbound lanes from Aaron Drive to North Atherton Place. During afternoon hours, milling will take place in the left and center eastbound lanes from North Atherton Place to Aaron Drive. Paving along this section will begin at 7 p.m. The left and center westbound lanes will be paved first, followed by the left and center eastbound lanes. Traffic will not be permitted to cross newly laid asphalt until material has cooled. Lane closures will be left in place overnight until line striping can be completed.
Daylight work hours are 7 a.m to 7 p.m. Nighttime hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. PennDOT expects the milling and paving work to be done by Aug. 15, but all work is weather and schedule dependent.
