UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Campus Recreation, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, has joined the recreation movement organized by Riddle & Broom, TikTok and NIRSA, an association for collegiate recreation. The #RecMovement permits University students, faculty, staff and alumni with a Penn State email address the opportunity to access to live workout classes and content archives from over 40 different colleges and universities around the country.
The 2020 Recreation Movement is an online initiative encouraging participants to remain active during the COVID-19 quarantine through daily online fitness challenges and workout classes, as well as individual exercises including walking, running and hiking. University recreation center directors, students, and instructors from participating schools will be sharing a variety of live and recorded workout classes on the Recreation Movement website from April 6, through May 3. Classes include yoga, boxing, cardio, HIIT, conditioning, and more and are recorded and streamed using the TikTok video sharing platform.
“During this time, it is our mission to provide opportunities and motivation to stay active and engaged, no matter where our participants are social distancing,” said Laura Hall, director of Penn State Campus Recreation. “It’s exciting for us to be one of the first universities to get invited to participate in the 2020 Recreation Movement Challenge. Along with our collegiate recreation colleagues and students from other universities throughout the country, everyone is learning and working in new ways, so it made sense for us to join the challenge. Thanks to NIRSA and the various sponsors of the 2020 Recreation Movement Challenge, we have more online resources to offer to our students and campus community in a fun and competitive manner.”
Registered users participate live or complete archived classes from 40+ different colleges and universities across the country through the Recreation Movement website. Users log their active minutes per workout through the site; minutes are then combined by school and displayed in a leaderboard showcasing each school’s performance. Each week the top 5 individual student participants are rewarded for their engagement in the program.
The 2020 Recreation Movement helps the Penn State community of students, alumni, staff and faculty remain positive and healthy. Staying active together, even when we’re apart. Learn more about Campus Recreation and the recreation movement program by visiting the Campus Recreation website.
