Recycle and help the Hershey Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Pennsylvania and Consolidated Scrap Resources Inc. (CSR) have added two permanent magazine drop-off containers in Central Pennsylvania. The public is encouraged to deposit magazines, catalogs and any other types of glossy paper in any of the 20 containers to help earn money for operational expenses at Hershey’s Ronald McDonald House. The new recycling containers are located at Sam’s Club, 6781 Grayson Road (Route 322), Harrisburg and at McDonald’s Restaurant, 1434 Manheim Pike, Lancaster. A complete list of all 20 container locations is available at http://www.rmhc-centralpa.org online.

The magazine recycling program allows CSR to pick up full containers of magazines and glossy paper, process those items, and sell them to a paper mill, which turns the discarded paper into new magazine paper. A portion of the proceeds from each ton of paper collected goes directly to the Ronald McDonald House to pay for operational expenses. Since the inception of the program in 2004, more than 4,870 tons of recycled paper have generated more than $137,000 for the House.

A “home away from home” for families (12,000 to date) going through a crisis, the Hershey Ronald McDonald House is a place where family members can stay while their children are undergoing treatment at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The home opened its doors in 1984 and grows steadily. It is equipped with a well-supplied kitchen, 20 bedrooms, laundry rooms, library, lounge, television rooms, playroom, and staffed with several employees and volunteers.

For more information, visit the Ronald McDonald House web site.

The organization also collects aluminum can tabs, which may be dropped off in the “tab hut” located in the parking lot of the Hershey Ronald McDonald House at 745 West Governor Road; at the Mechanicsburg Middle School Office, 1750 South Market Street from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; or at any of the 47 branches of Members 1st Federal Credit Union (search for locations and hours of operation at www.members1st.org). Tabs can also be collected at The Bryce Jordan Center in State College at all their recycling points throughout the stadium.
