Ryan Sallans, an international speaker, author, educator, and trainer, will be discussing his transition from female to male in a presentation titled "FTM: Scouting the Unknown" at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium at Penn State Berks. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Before the lecture, there will be a faculty and staff breakfast with Sallans from 10:15 a.m.–11:15 a.m. in the Lions Den. This event is open to all faculty and staff of the college who wish to learn about creating a trans-inclusive campus. During the session, Sallans will present on current barriers that colleges and universities face and will facilitate an intentional conversation on supporting our trans students (inside and outside the classroom). Attendees must RSVP by Friday, Oct. 2, at http://tinyurl.com/p9964um.
After starting his transition from female to male in 2005, Sallans began sharing his personal story, while also exploring ways to increase access to healthcare and inclusion for transgender communities. Today, Sallans is known as an international speaker, trainer and author of the book, "Second Son: Transitioning Toward My Destiny, Love and Life."
This presentation is hosted by the Penn State Berks Residence Life Office, Multicultural and International Affairs Office, Arts and Lecture Series, and the Diversity Committee.
