UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — This week, Penn State seniors have the chance to vote for their class gift and leave a legacy to their alma mater. Voting for the 2019 Class Gift runs through Friday, Oct. 19.
Students graduating in May, August or December 2019 are eligible to vote at this link: https://giveto.psu.edu/s/1218/2014/index.aspx?sid=1218&gid=1&pgid=1442&cid=10298
The 2019 Class Gift Committee will announce the gift at an event on Wednesday, Oct. 24, to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the ground floor of the HUB-Robeson Center, in front of the Monumental Stairs, located across from Jamba Juice.
Tom Beeby, executive director of the 2019 Class gift Campaign, will speak on the significance of the gift and the campaign’s message of building a better Penn State. O. Richard Bundy III, vice president for Development and Alumni Relations at Penn State, will accept the gift on behalf of the University.
Light refreshments will be served after the event with attendees having the chance to make a donation right there on the spot to the 2019 Class Gift.
The three proposals on the ballot are:
LGBTQA+ Student Resources Center Emergency Fund
Within a diverse Penn State community, the LGBTQA+ Student Resource Center offers a place for all students to have deeper dialogues, engage in civic discourse, and create a stronger community. Emergency support for any student who utilizes this center is needed now more than ever and will be used to keep Penn State students on track to completing their degree.
Pollinators’ Garden Entry Gate
The Arboretum at Penn State is expanding their presence with the addition of a Pollinators’ Garden. An entry gate to the new garden would provide a beautiful and unique first experience within the space, inviting visitors to learn and explore the importance of pollination in our environment.
WorkLink Scholarship
WorkLink is a new, two-year certificate program at Penn State University park, opening in the Fall of 2019. The goal of WorkLink is to help students with intellectual disabilities develop work and independent living skills while gaining the benefits of a college experience, leading to more employment opportunities upon graduation. An endowed scholarship for participants of this program would provide WorkLink students, traditionally neglected by higher education, with opportunities to study and work alongside their Penn State peers, offering social integration which would help increase employment and independent living outcomes.
