UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — For the second year in a row, the Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center has been recognized by LendEDU as one of the top financial literacy programs among colleges and universities in the United States.
Each year the online loan marketplace LendEDU ranks programs based on its 50-point scale. This year, the Sokolov-Miller Family Center moved up two positions, tying for 13th place. As LendEDU points out, the center has increased its staff size and continues to conduct hundreds of workshops per year, along with one-on-one counseling and online resources such as webinars and self-study modules.
“We are excited to be recognized two years in a row for our hard work,” said Daad Rizk, director of the Sokolov-Miller Family Center. “We are glad our expanded programming in the past year has been reflected in our new rank with LendEDU. I’m very proud of our staff and the good work they do, and grateful for the support of the University.”
Each college or university program was rated on a 50-point scale based on three criteria: the number of workshops and available resources, access to one-on-one consultation, and available incentivizing programs. Penn State’s program scored a 43.5. The full list was released on July 10.
Rizk has been at the helm of the center since it was founded in 2013. Last year, the center received a generous gift from the Sokolov-Miller family through the University’s fundraising campaign, “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence.” This allowed the center to expand staff and programming in support of its mission of access and affordability by providing students the knowledge and tools needed for managing their money. The center also benefited from a $150,000 gift from PNC and a $100,000 gift from PSECU.
The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center offers services to the entire Penn State community and is part of the Penn State Office of Undergraduate Education, the academic administrative unit that provides leadership and coordination for University-wide programs and initiatives in support of undergraduate teaching and learning at Penn State.
