UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Barry Worthington, executive director of the United States Energy Association (USEA), and a Penn State alum, will present “Sustaining Global Energy Development” at 4 p.m. Monday, April 3, in 112 Walker Building.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of the EarthTalks Series sponsored by the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI) and the Penn State Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research (MCOR).
The USEA is a bipartisan advisory organization that represents the broad interests of the U.S. energy sector and seeks to increase understanding of energy issues nationally and around the world. It is the U.S. member committee on the World Energy Council (WEC), a United Nations-accredited body that advises countries and leaders around the world on energy issues.
Worthington has overseen the association’s domestic and international activities since 1988. In his role, he meets with world energy leaders to advance information and help find partnerships to develop infrastructure projects, according to the group’s website.
Previously, Worthington was vice president of the Thomas Alva Edison Foundation and prior to that served several positions at the former Houston Lighting and Power, now known as CenterPoint Energy. He received his bachelor’s degree in man-environmental relations from Penn State, and his master’s in studies of the future from the University of Houston.
Worthington serves as a board member of the National Energy Foundation, Energy Law Foundation and the Advisory Broad of the Electric Power Research Institute. He has written extensively on energy and environmental matters.
