UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Local government officials will honor the service and sacrifice of military service members, veterans and their families with proclamations announced in coordination with Penn State’s 11th annual Military Appreciation Week.

State College Borough officials issued a proclamation on Oct. 3 at its regular public meeting. The proclamation recognized Military Appreciation Week in the borough from Nov. 4 through Nov. 12.

State College Borough Mayor Ezra Nanes expressed support for Military Appreciation Week in the proclamation.

“We believe it is our responsibility to do everything we can to honor and support those who have served our nation,” he said. “And whereas, the Pennsylvania State University, together with the State College Borough community, is committed to translating our gratitude into sustainable social and civic support and whereas we dedicate this commemoration week for military appreciation as a symbol of unity to recognize, honor and support the commitment and sacrifice of current, former and fallen members of all the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.”

The Centre County Commissioners will recognize November as Military Appreciation Month at its Nov. 1 public meeting. Officials will meet at 10 a.m. at the Willowbank Office Building in Bellefonte.

The 11th annual Penn State Military Appreciation Week officially kicks off on Nov. 4 with a concert at The State Theatre in downtown State College. Tickets are available online and at The State Theatre Box Office. All concert proceeds benefit the Penn State Military Student Fund.

Other events are scheduled throughout the week leading up to the Military Appreciation Tailgate and home football game against the University of Maryland on Nov. 12. See the full schedule of military appreciation events on Penn State News.

Military appreciation at Penn State

Penn State has a long-standing and proud tradition of serving the men and women of our military through education benefits, resources, support and more. This year, Penn State faculty and staff members who serve or have served will be honored during a series of campus events, including the military appreciation football game on Nov. 12. Through Penn State’s Seats for Servicemembers program, supporters can provide an opportunity for a service member to attend the Nov. 12 game by purchasing a ticket to be donated. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online or by calling 1-800-NITTANY. Penn State students, faculty, staff and alumni with military connections can submit a profile of service for the opportunity to be featured on the University’s Military Appreciation website and other materials.
