UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Student Farm Club will host its fourth annual plant sale fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 26, in Headhouse II, located on Curtin Road across from the Berkey Creamery. This year’s sale will feature more than 30 varieties of garden vegetables, herbs and potted succulents.
Katie Leite, Student Farm Club executive team member, encourages attendees to come early and to come with their garden shopping lists and questions, as the Student Farm Club will be available to help with any needs.
“The plant sale is something that I look forward to every year because it's great to see community members, Penn State faculty and staff, and students get excited about new seedlings and gardening,” Leite said. “It’s even more amazing that each plant has been hand-seeded, potted and tended to by student interns and club members, who then get to see all of their hard work travel across State College and Pennsylvania, to fill hundreds of people's gardens.”
Guests are able to pay with cash or check and are asked to bring their own bags or boxes to transport their purchased plants. All proceeds benefit the Student Farm Club. For added convenience in 2019, the Student Farm Club is offering a late pick-up option that allows shoppers to pay for the plants in advance and pick them up between 5 and 5:30 p.m., in case of work or class conflicts.
The plant sale will continue until 5 p.m. or when sold out. A list of available tomato varieties, the sale's perennial favorite, is available on the Student Farm website.
