UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State's Student Programming Association Lectures Committee has announced a free lecture by David Hogg, one of the co-founders of March For Our Lives, a youth-led, gun violence prevention movement, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, in the HUB-Robeson Center’s Heritage Hall on the University Park campus.

The lecture will continue SPA’s Distinguished Speaker Series and will be part of a ‘SPA Day’ celebration of the University-affiliated organization in the form of an all-day HUB takeover.

On March 24, 2018, March For Our Lives organized one of the largest rallies the United States has ever seen. What prompted Hogg to create this movement, he said, was the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. Hogg was a senior there when the largest school shooting in American history took place, where he lost friends, classmates and teachers. Hogg said it was because of that experience that he took action in an effort to prevent other children from going through what he experienced. Hogg uses his social media platform with more than a million followers to help make the voices of others who have stood up to violence heard, as well as create a community that can help end gun violence.

The lecture is free for all students with a valid Penn State University Park Student Photo ID and is funded by the student-initiated fee.

Tickets are also required for this lecture and are available for Penn State students to pick up starting on Wednesday, Jan. 9 in the SPA office, 226 HUB-Robeson Center. Non-PSU students can also attend, and tickets for those without a valid Penn State University Student Photo ID are available starting Monday, Jan. 14.
