UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State students will spread out across the greater State College area Saturday (Feb. 27) to volunteer their time during the sixth annual State Day of Service.

The event is sponsored by the Council of LionHearts, Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association. Organizers expect close to 450 students who will volunteer at about 25 different sites.

Matt Barone, assistant director for service and leadership with student affairs, said new this year will be Stop Hunger Now, an international organization that will come to campus for help packaging meals. The organization brings the ingredients and student volunteers will measure and package the meals, which will be sent out to people in need of food around the world.

Along with the Saturday projects, a group of student volunteers will also head into town Sunday morning for a State Sweep event, when they’ll pick up litter in downtown State College.

Registration for State Day of Service is full.
