UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Sustainability Institute will host a virtual lunch break presentation on "Climate and Carbon Challenges at Penn State," at noon on April 22 via Zoom. The information session will feature panelists from several groups around the University who will discuss initiatives and efforts related to carbon reduction strategies and climate action at Penn State.

The virtual event takes place on the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day, when Penn Staters, along with about 20 million others in the United States, protested the increasingly deteriorating conditions of the world's environment. Within three years of the first Earth Day, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was formed and the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act had been passed.

Fifty years later, Penn State students, faculty and staff are leading numerous initiatives at the University to help reduce carbon emissions and address climate change. During this information session, attendees will hear four brief presentations from representatives from the Carbon Negative 2030 group, the University Faculty Senate, the Climate Crossover Group, and student groups focused on divestment from fossil fuels and other issues related to climate.

Panelists for the event include:

  • Divya Jain and Joshua Adams, Penn State students
  • Mark Sentesy, Climate Crossover
  • Charles Anderson and Margot Kaye, Carbon Negative 2030
  • Nicholas Rowland and Brandi Robinson, University Faculty Senate

A Q&A session will follow the presentations. The event is open to all, but registration prior to the event is requested. Questions about the event can be sent to ajs397@psu.edu.
