UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The issues surrounding mental health, wellness and resiliency have become a growing concern for students in the college environment, and Leo Flanagan, founder of the Center for Resilience in New York, will give a talk Wednesday (Nov. 11) for students, faculty and staff that focuses on ways to help.
“Resilience may be a hot topic, but it’s always been a concern among those who work closely with college students,” said Damon Sims, vice president for Student Affairs. “The ability to recover from failures and disappointments, to stay the course in trying times, to maintain healthy optimism in the face of doubt is a universal good that all of us require, but perhaps never more so than through the many important transitions found in the college student experience. I am grateful for the chance to gain new insight about this important topic from Leo Flanagan, whose own story and reputation suggest that he’ll have much to share with all of us.”
Flanagan will hold a presentation from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 in the Assembly Room at the Nittany Lion Inn where he’ll offer takeaway ideas about how to be more resilient. The presentation is open to students, faculty and staff.
The Center for Resilience was founded to help professionals thrive under pressure and integrates research to provide the tools to reduce stress and improve productivity. Flanagan is a clinical psychologist and a former executive with a top global investment bank. He founded the center in 2008.
