What's happening at Penn State? Here's a look at some of the cultural events taking place at the University this weekend and in the coming week:

Performances

"A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" — 7:30 p.m., Oct. 19, Eisenhower Auditorium. The 2014 Tony Award-winner for best musical arrives at Penn State.

"Faculty Artist Series" — 1 p.m., Oct. 22, Palmer Museum of Art. The Palmer Museum of Art will host a series of Sunday afternoon concerts while the School of Music facilities are undergoing construction and renovation. The weekly concerts will be held in the "BIG Deal" exhibition on the museum’s second floor. Free.

"Dimensions in Jazz" 4 p.m., Oct. 22, Playhouse Theatre. Concert by the School of Music will feature three big bands. Free.

"Argonautika"Oct. 24-Nov. 3, Pavilion Theatre. Penn State Centre Stage presents a modern take on "The Voyage of Jason and the Argonauts."

The Great White North: An expedition through French Canadian cuisine — Oct. 19, Cafe Laura, Mateer Building. Students in HM 430 Advanced Food Production and Service Management prepare a series of themed dinners throughout the semester to be served in the student-run Cafe Laura restaurant. Reservations required.

"Haunted Valley" 7-9 p.m., Oct. 20, Hintz Family Alumni Center. The Penn State Lion Ambassadors will show the University community the spooky side of campus with lantern-lit tours, apple cider and a haunted house. Free.

2017 National Symposium on Family IssuesOct. 23-24, Nittany Lion Inn. The 2017 National Symposium on Family Issues will focus on how new communications technologies are shaping family life. Free, but registration required.

Murder Mystery: Solve Your Way Through French Cuisine — Oct. 25, Cafe Laura, Mateer Building. Students in HM 430 Advanced Food Production and Service Management prepare a series of themed dinners throughout the semester to be served in the student-run Cafe Laura restaurant. Reservations required.

"The Many Faces of Intercultural Dialogue" 2:30-4 p.m., Oct. 26, Pattee Library. Intensive English Communication Program international students and their Penn State student partners will share posters about what they have learned about each other and their respective cultures during their conversation partner program.

Hawaiian Luau: Tropical cuisine from the islands — Oct. 26, Cafe Laura, Mateer Building. Students in HM 430 Advanced Food Production and Service Management prepare a series of themed dinners throughout the semester to be served in the student-run Cafe Laura restaurant. Reservations required.

Lectures

Foster-Foreman Conference of Distinguished Writers — Oct. 18-19. Wesley Lowery of the Washington Post and Lisa Falkenberg of the Houston Chronicle will be featured in talks at the University Park campus. Free.

Research Unplugged — 12:30 p.m., Oct. 19, Schlow Centre Region Library, State College. Jeremy Engels of the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences will present "Democratic Emotions: From Resentment to Gratitude." Free.

"Social-Emotional Learning: New Frontiers in Science and Practice in Preschools and Schools" — 4 p.m., Oct. 19, 22 Biobehavioral Health Building. Stephanie Jones, professor of education at Harvard University, will present the 2017 Bennett Lecture. Free.

Emily Dickinson Lecture7:30 p.m., Oct. 19, Nittany Lion Inn. U.S. Poet Laureate, Pulitzer Prize winner and National Book Award finalist Tracy K. Smith will speak. Free.

Sustainability Showcase — Noon, Oct. 20, third floor, Life Sciences Bridge. David Titley, director of the Center for Solutions to Weather and Climate Risk, will present "Climate Change as a 'Risk Accelerator.'" Free.

Huddle with the Faculty 9 a.m., Oct. 21, Nittany Lion Inn. Shawn Clark, director of the Farrell Center for Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Clinical Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, will present "Innovation, Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation at Penn State." Free.

Executive Insights series11:15 a.m.-12:05 p.m., Oct. 20, 110 Business Building. Wanda Bryant Hope, chief diversity and inclusion officer for Johnson & Johnson, will discuss business and leadership as part of the Smeal College of Business' Executive Insights series. Free.

Love Your Body Week talk7 p.m., Oct. 24, Freeman Auditorium, HUB-Robeson Center. Lexie and Lindsay Kite, identical twin sisters and co-founders of the nonprofit organization Beauty Redefined, will speak as part of Penn State's Love Your Body Week. Free.

Research Unplugged — 12:30 p.m., Oct. 26, Schlow Centre Region Library, State College. Sasha Meinrath, Palmer Chair of Telecommunications, will present "Hacking in the 21st Century: Data Integrity in an Era of Cyber Siege." Free.

Exhibits

"Field to Front: Nittany Lions at War, 1917-1919"  April 23, 2017-April 30, 2018, the Penn State All-Sports Museum. The exhibit chronicles the contributions of Nittany Lion lettermen during World War I and follows their service from training in the U.S. to fighting in France and Italy. Free.

"Asher B. Durand: To Begin Again" — Sept. 5-Dec. 10, Palmer Museum of Art. This exhibit focuses on the early career of this leading artist of the Hudson River School. Free.

"BIG Deal: Sizeable Paintings" — Sept. 5-Dec. 17, Palmer Museum of Art. The museum showcases some of its monumental canvases from its permanent collection, many of which have not been on view in recent years. Free.

"Minna Citron after Atelier 17" — Sept. 5-Dec. 10, Palmer Museum of Art. Four decades of printmaking by artist Minna Citron. Free.

"The History of Pattee Library and Paterno Library" — Oct. 3, 2017-Jan. 15, 2018, Pattee Library. This exhibit chronicles the University Libraries' 162-year history at University Park campus. Free.

"Skinnydipping"  Oct. 12-Nov. 4, Woskob Family Gallery, 146 S. Allen St., State College. "Skinnydipping" is an exhibition of two- and three-dimensional work that explores what it means to be a young American today. Free.
