UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- To support students who may be studying or completing academic work overnight on campus during finals week, Penn State University Transportation Services, in partnership with the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA), is planning extended hours of student parking.
From 4 p.m. Friday, May 2, through 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, the overnight parking restriction for student parking permits will be waived. Resident student permit holders will gain overnight parking access to the East, Eisenhower and Nittany parking decks, in addition to lots already authorized by their respective permits. Off-campus student permit holders (Commuter, Lot 43, Lot 83 East) will gain overnight parking access to all lots normally authorized for evening/weekend parking (see yellow-shaded lots on the 2013/2014 Student Parking Map). Overnight student parking in Lot Green H (Hort Woods Day Care) and the HUB Parking Deck are excluded.
Resident student parking lots will remain reserved for vehicles with the permit specific to that lot. Regulations for all lots prohibiting student parking will also remain in effect (see the red-shaded lots with the “No Parking” symbol on the 2013/2014 Student Parking Map). Parking spaces posted as reserved, such as ADA and service spaces, will remain reserved 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Resident students not currently registered for a permit may purchase a one-week parking permit for Lot 82 for $20 or for Lot 83 for $15. Students living off-campus may purchase a one-week commuter permit for $5 or a one-week (24 hours per day) permit for Lot 83 East for $18. In addition to the standard parking privileges associated with these permits, the overnight parking privileges outlined above will also apply to the temporary permit. To register for a permit, visit the Parking Office in Eisenhower Parking Deck from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students must have their Penn State ID and vehicle license plate number. Payment can be made by cash, check or money order, major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover) and LionCash+, or the amount can be charged to the student’s bursar account.
"The UPUA is extremely excited to partner with Transportation Services to resolve parking issues faced by students at Penn State University Park. We believe that the extension of parking hours for students during finals week as well as the provisions for students to purchase parking passes just for that week will be extremely beneficial to all those who commute to campus," said newly-elected UPUA President Anand Ganjam.
“Transportation Services realizes the importance of students being able to focus on projects/finals during finals week. Many students put in long and late hours in classrooms, labs and the library," said Ryan Givens, Assistant Director of Transportation Services.
