Unity Day, an annual Penn State event that helps bring students, faculty, staff, and the community together to celebrate diversity, will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23. Activities will take place under the tent at Perkins Plaza, at Penn State Berks, rain or shine. All Unity Day activities are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
“We Are Global Citizens” is the theme for this year’s celebration.
The celebration will begin with the procession of flags from different countries by INK (International Klub) and opening remarks by Penn State Berks Chancellor R. Keith Hillkirk, followed by a series of revolving workshops that incorporate the theme of unity. Some of the workshops held during Unity Day will include: "Where in the World Are You From?," names written in different languages, an art project with the Muslim Students Club, cards with “Hello” written in different languages by International mentors, and Unity Day Graffiti. Students who complete several of these workshops will get their "passport" stamped to receive a unity t-shirt. The celebration will also feature live music and other performances, an introductory step class taught by the Penn State Berks Step Team, and an International Food Fair catered by Penn State Berks Housing and Food Services.
