UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — University Drive Extension from Park Avenue to just south of the Dairy Barn Access Road will close April 10 as construction begins for a three-phase road construction project. Detours for the first two phases will be posted for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic to access University Drive Extension.

Phase one will be split into two timeframes. The initial portion will take place between April 10 and May 7 and will allow the Campus Shuttle to maintain its normal route and minimize impacts to the annual Movin’ On concert scheduled for April 28.

On May 8, the second portion of phase one will extend the road closure from Park Avenue to just south of Services Road and close the intersection with the Dairy Barn Access Road. Construction includes new full-depth asphalt pavement with bike lanes on both sides, concrete curbs, lighting, underground utilities, traffic signal upgrades at Park Avenue, concrete sidewalks, and landscaping, with completion expected by early July.

University Drive Extension will remain closed for phase two, which includes the reconstruction of the Services Road intersection. The third and final phase, which includes top course paving, pavement markings, and signage, will likely allow for the road to reopened, with traffic controlled by flaggers.

Weather-permitting, the project is expected to be completed by July 28.
