UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Police will hold an active-shooter training exercise at Thomas Building on the University Park campus from March 4 to 7.

Emergency vehicles will be on site. The exercise will occur both inside and outside the building.

Penn State police officers from across the Commonwealth will be participating in the exercise.

The purpose of the exercise is to prepare University Police officers for potential active-shooter incidents. Penn State police officers routinely participate in training to prepare for a variety of emergency scenarios, including active-shooter situations. Law enforcement agencies across the country regularly participate in such trainings, as they are considered best practices for the profession.

The training will be closed to the news media due to the nature of the exercise.
