UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Thanks to a collaborative effort between University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) representatives and Campus Recreation staff, students on a tight schedule no longer have to decide if they should stay in and study or hit the gym for some time on the treadmill. For the remainder of the spring 2017 semester, they can do both.
The addition of two treadmill desks in the White Building Fitness Center has made it possible for students to remain active and energized without taking time away from their studies. Students can reserve the desks in advance for 30- or 60-minute intervals or simply walk in if no one is signed up at the time.
The desks, donated at no cost to the University for a spring semester trial run by fitness equipment company Life Fitness, are available to all University Park students, regardless of fitness membership status. At the conclusion of the pilot program, student feedback and usage statistics will determine whether or not the desks are here to stay.
“We are extremely excited to hear student feedback regarding the desks,” said UPUA at-large representative Andrew George. “Our hope is that they enhance students’ physical and mental health, and perhaps even enhance academic performance as an additional study aid.”
Students can reserve a treadmill desk in advance by visiting the fitness desk in White Building or by calling 814-867-2083. Feedback on any aspect of the treadmill desk experience should be directed to UPUA representatives at UPUA@psu.edu.
