UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — One of Penn State’s iconic institutions turns 150 this year, and you can have a voice in deciding on one of the tasty celebration plans.

The Berkey Creamery celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, as the first Creamery was established in 1865 inside a barn on campus, producing and selling dairy products such as fresh milk and cheese.

Plenty of celebration plans are scheduled, including voting for the Creamery’s special anniversary flavor that will be sold at the Creamery, debuting in July during the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts.

The three choices are: Birthday Cake, Strawberry Cheesecake with graham crackers and Red Velvet.

Voting began May 24 and will end at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, June 7. The winning flavor will be announced June 8.

To vote for your favorite, visit Penn State’s social media sites: Facebook and Instagram. You can tweet your choice and include the hashtag #Creamery150.

Also, an online voting form is available for those not on social media.

Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences has teamed with the Creamery to offer events and activities throughout 2015 to celebrate 150 years of dairy production and food science advancements.Promotions include a limited edition Flavor Passport, coming in July, that gives Creamery patrons the chance to track all the flavors they’ve tried; the launch of the new creamery.psu.edu website later this summer; an attempt to break the Creamery’s record for most cones and bowls sold during Arts Festival; ice cream socials organized by the college; and an exhibit of Creamery artifacts in the University Libraries from August to December.
