UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The World Campus Student Government Association is accepting applications for members to its five committees that will help represent the thousands of online learners of the Penn State World Campus student body.

Through Aug. 18, World Campus’ first student government is accepting applications for the following committees: academic affairs, student affairs, technology, marketing and communications and governmental affairs. The student government’s executive board and committee chairs will then elect 20 new committee members.

Membership is open to full-time and part-time students with continuous enrollment with World Campus. This includes graduate, undergraduate, certificate and nondegree students.

Applicants must have completed at least one full semester at World Campus prior to election.

A description of each committee follows:

  • Academic Affairs committee, which is responsible for advocating and providing student representation in academic policies and procedures.
  • Student Affairs committee, which represents the student body for issues related to careers, mental health, student engagement and more.
  • Technology committee, which advocates for improvements to technology and communicates with key technology administrators to ensure technology enhancements are made in the interest of the student body.
  • Marketing and Communications committee, which manages external communications such as social media, the WCSGA website and newsletter while providing outlets for the committees to have their messages heard.
  • Governmental Affairs committee, which shares the voice for the student body for all governmental and regulatory bodies external to Penn State World Campus.

Penn State recognizes that online learners are a unique, independent and cooperative body of learners within the university. The World Campus Student Government Association was established to advocate for the needs of this unique student body and to provide opportunities for students to become more recognized as equal participants in the Penn State learning community.
