Applications now open for CTSI’s Early-Stage Investigator Training Program (KL2)

Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute seeks faculty applicants.

Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute is now accepting applications for its Early-Stage Investigator Training Program (KL2) to provide research training. The two-year program is funded through a National Institutes of Health KL2 grant that is a part of Penn State’s Clinical and Translational Science Award.

Applicants must be full-time Penn State junior faculty with a research or practice doctorate (MD, DO, PhD, MD/PhD, PharmD, DrPH, DO/PhD or comparable doctoral-level degree) at the rank of assistant professor.

Selected scholars receive 75% full-time professional effort, or 50% effort for surgery or surgical specialties, to their career development and research training during the mentored phase.

“As an early-career faculty member, the KL2 program has been instrumental to the development of my program of research,” Liza Behrens, current scholar in the program from Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing. “It has afforded me special opportunities to collaborate with resources and scientists across the university and expand my network of collaborators nationally. I highly recommend it for any new faculty to Penn State.”

The program is led by Lauren J Van Scoy, and Marie Boltz, and involves faculty from across the University sharing their expertise.

“We’re excited to recruit a new cohort of KL2 scholars. Our current group provided positive feedback about the program, and we can see how they’ve developed a strong sense of community and support for one another — working together to solve problems, supporting one another with grant writing and critiques, and sharing knowledge and information with one another,” Scoy and Boltz said. “We’re looking forward to adding new programming to continue our focus on grant writing, leadership skills, grants management, rural health, and team science to meet the CTSI’s mission of advancing the careers of upcoming clinical and translational scientists.”
