-- We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children's Activity and Nutrition): We Can! is a national education program for parents and caregivers focusing on preventing obesity in children and teens. The program will be presented by Penn State Cooperative Extension and provides information and activities that encourage improved nutritional choices and increased physical activity for youth ages 8 to 13. Along with the instruction of the program, participants will be able to sample recipes of healthy foods and snacks that can be made at home. In addition, participants will tour a local supermarket to learn how to select healthier choices for their families. The class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, June 12 to 15, at Penn State DuBois. The instructor is Rick Kralj.
-- e-Bay Buying: "Buying on e-Bay" will cover topics such as secure transactions, searching and bidding, and precautions. The class will be held from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 12 and 13, at the DEF Education and Technology Center. The instructor is Greg Snyder.
-- e-Bay Selling: "Selling on e-Bay" will help students navigate through the e-Bay landscape and avoid common mistakes. Topics include getting started, start-up investment, strategies, transactions and security. The class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 15, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, in the DEF Education and Technology Center. The instructor is Greg Snyder.
-- Introduction to Watercolor: This course will introduce the student to watercolor painting. The basic elements of painting with watercolor, such as color mixing and application will be demonstrated. Students will create several watercolor projects including painting of landscapes. Other activities include sketching and painting portraits, objects and still life. Painting from a photograph will be covered. The class meets from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, June 19 to 22, at Penn State DuBois. The instructor is Ellie Taraborrelli.
-- Introduction to Drawing: Basic drawing techniques will be introduced to the student through value studies and observational drawing. Different media such as charcoal, chalk and oil pastels, and pen and ink will be explored. Students will draw from direct observation as well as from photographs and use a variety of media. Drawing faces, people, various elements in nature, perspective and landscape will be covered. The class meets from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 19 to 22, at Penn State DuBois. The instructor is Ellie Taraborrelli.
-- Capture Control of your Personal Computer: This computer survival skills workshop is designed for the home computer user. The latest phishing scams, spyware/malware and viruses will be discussed and defined. Learn what essential programs a computer needs to run. Hands on practice with the tools to effectively rid a computer of various forms of spyware is an integral part of this workshop. The class meets from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, June 23, in the DEF Education and Technology Center. The instructor is Diane Lucas.
-- Women's Wellness: Living Healthy through Menopause: This seminar is for women of all ages. This seminar will discuss the latest research on the role of nutrition therapy and herbal supplements for treating menopause in women. It will be presented by registered dietitian Rick Kralj of Penn State Cooperative Extension. The class meets from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 23 at Penn State DuBois.
