DuBOIS, Pa. — After ending the regular season with a 30-9 record, Penn State DuBois baseball entered the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) playoffs as the number one seed on the western side of the championship bracket. Being the number one seed earned them the right to host first round games at their home field, Showers Field in DuBois, on April 27.
The first game of the day saw the number two seed, Penn State Mont Alto, defeat the number three seed, Penn State Greater Allegheny, by a final score of 13-2. That set up a matchup between Mont Alto and DuBois in the second game of the day. While both teams already secured a trip to University Park for championship weekend, the winner of the game would stay alive in the winner’s bracket, while the loser would fall into an elimination game on May 5.
In a pitching duel of a game, DuBois defeated Mont Alto by a final score of 3-0. The shutout marked the Nittany Lions seventh shutout win of the season.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when DuBois broke the deadlock with a run. They added two more runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 3-0.
Mont Alto's offense struggled to gain momentum against DuBois' pitching staff. Despite collecting eight hits throughout the game, they were unable to convert any into runs, leaving 11 runners stranded on base.
Taylor Boland started for DuBois and delivered a solid performance, holding Mont Alto scoreless through 4.1 innings. Connor Cherry and Maclain Welshans also contributed with strong relief appearances to preserve the shutout victory. Offensively, the Nittany Lions were led by Bryce Dobson and Kyle Elensky, who both launched home runs to provide the team's offensive firepower.
