'Weather World' celebrating 40th anniversary with open house on Aug. 27

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — "Weather World," the Penn State Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science’s weekday 15-minute weather broadcast, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. An open house will be held 1–3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27, in the Joel N. Myers Weather Center and Outreach Studios, 606 Walker Building on the University Park campus.

The event is free and open to the public and no RSVP is required. Free parking will be available during the event in the Red A parking lot located by the bus station off Atherton Street and Berkey Creamery ice cream will be served.

The award-winning show, run by faculty and students, has been delivering daily forecasts for 40 years. Regular segments include daily, weekly and long-range forecasts, as well as weather-breaking news coverage and student-produced feature pieces.

The show airs across the commonwealth on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN) weekdays at 5:45 p.m. The show can also be viewed on WPSU, a public broadcasting channel, weekdays at 5:30 and 5:45 p.m.

WPSU will be also airing a Weather World 40th anniversary special as part of a pledge drive at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
