UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Alumni Association has recognized a program in the College of Education for its exceptional success in connecting alumni and current students.
The College of Education Alumni Society’s Alumni-Student Teacher Network (ASTN), which aims to help prepare Penn State students to embark on their teaching careers, received the Alumni Association’s Student Interaction Award.
Established in 1992, the volunteer-driven ASTN is a professional development program that complements students’ teacher preparation coursework. Students attend seminars that focus on topics such as school law, mock interviews, teacher certification and professionalism, and they have an opportunity to network with education professionals.
College of Education alumni, including Alumni Society Board President Pam Peter, and current and former ASTN chairs, were on hand to receive the award, which was conferred during the Penn State Alumni Association’s recent Volunteer Awards Banquet. A list of all Penn State Alumni Association Volunteer Group Award descriptions and recipients is available on the Alumni Association’s website.
The ASTN currently serves Penn State student teachers in the Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Erie and Centre regions. For more information, contact Stefanie Tomlinson, assistant director of alumni relations, at SKT2@psu.edu.
