- Kate Elken, who received a master’s degree in special education in 2021, will present this year’s Charles Hughes Lecture, hosted by the Special Education (SPLED) program in the Penn State College of Education, at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in 112 Chambers Building on the University Park campus. In her presentation, “Balancing Preparation and Flexibility: Takeaways from my first years of teaching,” Elken will discuss "lessons learned" in her work as a teacher in the State College Area School District, following her graduation from the Penn State SPLED master’s program in 2021.
