Elijah Armstrong, a 2019 College of Education alumnus, received the Paul G. Hearne Emerging Leader award from the American Association for People with Disabilities (AAPD). With the $7,500 dollars he was awarded, he is creating the Heumann Award, which creates an opportunity for students with disabilities to apply for educational awards without the need for a resume or GPA requirement. The award will also tell the stories of students with disabilities and create student-centered narratives around the idea of disability in education.
Matthew Ferrari, associate professor of biology, and Melissa Hicks, director and instructional designer for the Office of Digital Learning, who received a master’s degree in learning, design, and technology from the College of Education in 2016, have been honored with Dean’s Special Awards for their efforts to support the Eberly College of Science and the University in response to COVID-19. The awards were presented by Verne M. Wiliman Dean Tracy Langkilde on Jan. 19, 2021, during the college’s Climate and Diversity Awards ceremony, sponsored by the college’s Climate and Diversity Committee.
