— Christopher Caruso (2005, bachelor of science, secondary mathematics education) has been promoted to principal at Wallenpaupack Area Middle School in Hawley, Pennsylvania, effective July 1, 2017.

— Mark Franklin Patishnock (2012, doctorate, counseling psychology) has been awarded an Alumni Achievement Award by the Penn State Alumni Association. He is a licensed psychologist and director of Student Counseling & Psychological Services at Augusta University in Georgia. He is also an adjunct assistant professor at Wake Forest University. Previously, he worked at the counseling centers at Penn State, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Virginia Tech, where he also served as the university’s suicide prevention coordinator. Patishnock specializes in clinical issues surrounding stigma, shame and vulnerability. He lives with Tourette syndrome, and his lifelong experience with this condition has strengthened his role as a therapist and administrative leader. Patishnock earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from the College of the Liberal Arts in 2005.

— Ashley B. Schroeder (2005, bachelor of science, elementary education) has been awarded an Alumni Achievement Award by the Penn State Alumni Association. She is a second-grade teacher at Hinckley Elementary School in Ohio and entrepreneur of an online teaching blog, Schroeder Shenanigans in 2nd. Her custom-designed classroom materials are purchased by thousands of followers on Teachers Pay Teachers, the world’s largest online educational marketplace. She has grown into a “teacherpreneur,” marketing and selling her digital teaching resources to more than 40,000 followers through her Teachers Pay Teachers page and social media accounts. Schroeder uses her social media presence and platforms such as Instagram and Facebook Live to share teaching tips and advice with educators worldwide who share her passion for teaching.

— Roland Evans Walters Jr. (1971, bachelor of science; 1972, masters of education) recently retired after a 44-year career in higher education. For the past 14 years, he served as the director of career services for Ferrum College in Virginia. Prior to that, he spent 18 years at Radford University and 12 years Wytheville Community College. Walters is an U.S. Navy veteran and used his GI Bill to attend Penn State, where he was a member of the 1969 Penn State Choral State Department Tour. In 2007, he received a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Germany and in December 2011, he was the recipient of the Penn State College of Education Alumni Society Board of Directors Leadership and Service Award.
