"Alumni Updates" highlights career achievements by Penn State College of Education alumni.
- Emily Anderson, an assistant professor of educational policy studies at Florida International University, and Rebecca Bayeck, an assistant professor in the Department of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences at Utah State University, presented at the 2022 Comparative and International Education Society Conference, convened in Minneapolis, from April 17-22. Anderson has doctorates in educational theory and policy, and comparative international education from Penn State. Bayeck holds doctorates in learning, design, and technology, and comparative international education from Penn State.
- Max Besong, a 2012 College of Education graduate, was named 2022 Teacher of the Year by State College Magazine. Besong teaches Academic Physics, Honors Physics, AP Physics, Physics II, Computer Science 1 and Computer Science 2 at his alma mater, Bald Eagle Area High School in Wingate, Pennsylvania. He also has involved his students in research for Penn State’s Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science.
- Emily (Meinen) Brill, a 2004 graduate of the College of Education with a bachelor's degree in secondary education, was recently named 2022 Teacher of the Year by the Pennsylvania Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She teaches family and consumer sciences at Keystone Oaks High School in Pittsburgh. Brill will move on to compete next year for the honor of being named National Teacher of the Year.
- Shari (Fackler) Capriola, a 1988 graduate of the College of Education, retired in June 2021 after teaching in the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District in Devon, Pennsylvania, for the past 31 years. Capriola was honored by the College of Education in 1998 with the Outstanding Teaching Award. In retirement, she is volunteering for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia's Reach Out and Read program.
