— Erica Frankenberg, professor of education (educational leadership), and Raquel Muniz, who received a joint juris doctor and doctorate in educational theory and policy from Penn State in 2018, co-authored Chapter 24 “Race and Education: School Desegregation and Resegregation since Brown and Promising Avenues toward Integration” in The Oxford Handbook of Children and Law.

— Gregory Mason, director of the Advising and Certification Center in the College of Education, has been elected to the leadership position of advising administration chair within NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising. The organization was chartered as a nonprofit in 1979 to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to ensure the educational development of students.

— Deborah Schussler, associate professor of education in the Department of Education Policy Studies, received a Spencer Conference Grant to bring together a group of international scholars and school-based practitioners to address the following: What are the core components of effective mindfulness-based interventions and what factors support or inhibit whole-school implementation? Included in the project are Julia Mahfouz, assistant professor in educational leadership at the University of Idaho, who received her doctorate in educational leadership from the Penn State College of Education in 2017; and Sebrina Doyle, former research assistant professor in Penn State’s Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center and a doctoral candidate in educational leadership.
