Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.

  • Soo-yong Byun, professor of education (educational theory and policy), was quoted in an article, “Why are English kindergartens on the rise as the birthrate declines?” in Korea JoongAng Daily.
  • Brandy Henry, assistant professor of education (rehabilitation and human services), is co-author of a recently published article, “COVID-19 complications among patients with opioid use disorder: a retrospective cohort study across five major NYC hospital systems,” in Addiction.
  • DeMarcus Jenkins, assistant professor of education (educational leadership), is co-author of a new paper, “Conjuring the Devil: Historicizing Attacks on Critical Race Theory,” in Threshholds in Education.
  • Matthew Kelly, assistant professor of education (educational leadership), and Kai Schafft, professor of education (educational leadership and rural sociology), were quoted in an article, “Almost 40 Elementary Schools Have Closed in Rural North-Central Pa. in the Past Decade. Here’s Why,” produced by the State College regional bureau of Spotlight PA.
  • Jessica Magness, a doctoral student in school psychology, won the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award in the 2023 Graduate School Exhibition for her research presentation, “Availability of Online Resources for LGBTQ+ Youth in Rural School Districts.”
  • David Passmore, distinguished professor emeritus of education, was interviewed for an article, “Opening of new plastics plant brings glowing orange clouds and repeated pollution violations,” by Oil & Gas Watch.
  • Israa Samarin, a doctoral student in workforce education and development, won second place in the Social and Behavioral Sciences subcategory in the 2023 Graduate School Exhibition for her poster presentation, “Unlocking the Potential of Personal Agility: An Analytical and Visual Approach to Employee Experience.”
