— Sebrina Doyle Fosco, a doctoral candidate in educational leadership, recently led two webinars for the Pennsylvania State Education Association. Fosco presented the Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education training to nearly 700 Pennsylvania school teachers. More information can be found at https://createforeducation.org/care/.

— Ty Hollett, assistant professor of education in the Department of Learning and Performance Systems, has a new article in Taylor Francis Online: “DIY Skateparks as temporary disruptions neoliberal cities: informal learning through micropolitical making.”

— Chris Kirk, a doctoral candidate in higher education, and Tram Pham, a doctoral student in educational leadership, were recently elected to serve as members to the College of Education Graduate School Council.

— Research by Paul Morgan, professor of education in the Department of Education Policy Studies, and colleagues George Farkas, distinguished professor of education at the University of California Irvine, and Marianne Hillemeier, professor emerita of health policy and administration and demography in the College of Health and Human Development, found that students of color are less likely to be identified as having disabilities than similarly situated students who are white. Their work was cited in an LA Progressive article, “Pushing Out Black Students With Disabilities Under COVID-19.” Additionally, a new article by Morgan; Drew H. Bailey, associate professor of education at the University of California Irvine; Farkas; Hillemeier; and Yoonkyung Oh, assistant professor of education in the Children’s Learning Institute, titled “Reciprocal effects of reading and mathematics? Beyond the cross-lagged panel model,” was published on APA PsycNET.

— Maryellen (Mimi) Schaub, associate professor of education (educational theory and policy), and David P. Baker, professor of education (educational theory and policy) and sociology, along with two colleagues from Korea, Hyerim Kim (a College of Education alumnus in educational theory and policy) and Deok-Ho Jang (a visiting scholar at the Center for the Study of Higher Education), recently published “Policy reformer’s dream or nightmare” in Compare: A Journal of Comparative and International Education.

— Deborah Schussler, associate professor of education in the Department of Education Policy Studies, has a new study on the Community Approach to Learning Mindfully program for teachers published in Psychology in the Schools. The article was co-authored with colleagues Alexis Harris, assistant professor of education at the University of Virginia who received her doctorate from the College of Education in 2014, and Mark Greenberg, Edna Peterson Bennett Endowed Chair in Prevention Research and professor of human development and psychology in the College of Health and Human Development.

— Anne Elrod Whitney, professor of education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, wrote a blog post, “The Gift of Offering Nothing,” which described her feelings about navigating turbulence during the coronavirus crisis, for the National Council of Teachers of English website.
