Bos Innovative Grant Award funding to help support her dissertation research examining an intervention using virtual representations and metacognitive strategies to teach the application of the Pythagorean Theorem.
— Allie Goldstein, assistant professor of education (higher education), shares advice on building community through online education platforms in the latest edition of the Jabbedu Education Podcast.
— Maithreyi Gopalan, assistant professor of education (higher education) in the Department of Education Policy Studies, has been selected as part of the American Educational Research Association’s (AERA) third cohort of fellows for the Study of Deeper Learning program. The five fellows selected will conduct studies using the AIR Education Study of Deeper Learning data set.
— Ty Hollett, assistant professor of education (learning systems) in the Department of Learning and Performance Systems, has a new article, “The Felt‐Force of Literacy,” in Reading Research Quarterly.
— Scott McDonald, professor of education (science education) in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and director of the Krause Innovation Studio, has co-edited a new book, “Preparing Science Teachers Through Practice-Based Teacher Education,” available through Harvard Education Press. His co-editors are David Stroupe, an associate professor of teacher education and science education at Michigan State University, and Karen Hammerness, director of Educational Research and Evaluation at the American Museum of Natural History.
— David McNaughton, professor of education in the Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling, and Special Education (EPCSE), has a new article, “The Effects of Shared e-Book Reading With Dynamic Text and Speech Output on the Single-Word Reading Skills of Young Children With Developmental Disabilities” in ASHAWIRE. His co-authors are Susannah Boyle, assistant professor at Millersville University; Janice Light, Hintz Family Endowed Chair in Children's Communicative Competence in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Penn State; Salena Babb, a doctoral student in the Department of EPCSE; and Shelley Chapin, who received a doctorate from the Department of EPCSE.
— Rebecca Tarlau, assistant professor of education and labor and employment relations in the Department of Learning and Performance Systems, and Hye-Su Kuk, a doctoral candidate in Lifelong Learning and Adult Education and a dual-degree candidate for Comparative and International Education at Penn State, have a new article, “The confluence of popular education and social movement studies into social movement learning: A systematic literature review,” in International Journal of Lifelong Education.
