Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.
- Soo-yong Byun, professor of education (educational theory and policy), is co-author of a new paper, “Do Teachers Feel Valued in Society? Occupational Value of the Teaching Profession in OECD Countries,” in AERA Open.
- The Center for Education and Civil Rights (CECR) in the Penn State College of Education released a statement about U.S. Supreme Court decision delivered on June 29 about diversity efforts in higher education, and CECR's continuing commitment to support efforts for racial equity and diversity in education.
- Annie Everett, a doctoral student in higher education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)’s Fellow, authored a paper, “Pell Reinstatement: Enhancing Access or Perpetuating Inequity?” published by CHEA. Everett spent two months working at CHEA’s Washington, D.C., office in summer 2023.
- A paper co-authored by Erica Frankenberg, professor of education (educational leadership and demography), and Sarah Asson, a doctoral candidate in educational leadership, was cited in a guest essay in The New York Times, “As the Suburbs Go, So Goes America.” Frankenberg also was quoted in an EducationWeek article, “Public Schools Are Still Segregated. But These Tools Can Help.” Additionally, a report co-authored by Frankenberg was cited in Justice Sonia Sotomayor's dissent in the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision on affirmative action.
- Maithreyi Gopalan, assistant professor of education and public policy, and doctoral candidate Rohitha Edara have a new article, “Health Policies as Education Policies? A Review of Causal Evidence and Mechanisms,” published in AERA Open.
- Leah P. Hollis, who was recently named associate dean for access, equity and inclusion in the Penn State College of Education, was quoted in an article in Forbes, “Higher Education Leaders Respond To Court’s Affirmative Action Ruling.”
- Maria Lewis, associate professor of education (educational leadership), is co-author of a policy brief, “Exploring How Power and Privilege Interact With Disability Laws in Education,” published by National Education Policy Center.
- Carlomagno Panlilio, assistant professor of education (educational psychology), is co-author of a new paper, “Exploring School Professionals’ Definitions of Childhood Trauma” in the Journal of Child & Adolescent Trauma.
- David Passmore, distinguished professor emeritus of education, was part of a Global Reporting Centre team that provided background on the economics and operation of the Shell Polymers Monaca for an NBC News report, “Months after residents sound the alarm, Pennsylvania 'cracks' down on Shell plant.”
