Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.

·      Gilberto Q. Conchas, Wayne K. and Anita Woolfolk Hoy Professor of Education, and co-author of "The Chicana/o/x Dream: Hope, Resistance and Educational Success,” was interviewed for a Fronteras podcast on Texas Public Radio.

·      The International Association for Society and Natural Resources (IASNR) selected an article co-authored by Matthew Gardner Kelly, assistant professor of education (educational leadership), and Kai Schafft, professor of education (educational leadership and rural sociology), for the Rabel J. Burdge and Donald R. Field Outstanding Article Award for best general research article published in Volume 34 (2021) of the journal Society & Natural Resources. The article, “A ‘Resource Curse’ for Education? Deepening Education Disparities in Pennsylvania’s Shale Gas Boomtowns,” was selected from more than 80 empirical articles published in that volume. Kelly, an associate with the Center on Rural Education and Communities (CREC), and Schafft, director of the CREC, will be recognized at the 2022 IASNR Conference in Costa Rica, and through the journal and related websites.

·      Gerald K. LeTendre, H.L. Batschelet Chair of Education (educational leadership), was selected to serve as a member of the International Jury for the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development. The prize was created in 2008 to support the improvement of teaching and learning quality in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education, which is one of UNESCO’s priorities.

·      Francesca Lopez, Waterbury Chair in Equity Pedagogy and professor of education, has been named one of 18 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Fellows for 2022. The AERA Fellows Program honors education researchers for their exceptional contributions to, and excellence in, education research. Lopez and the other selected scholars will be inducted during a ceremony at the 2022 annual meeting in San Diego on April 22.

·      Paul Morgan, Harry & Marion Eberly Faculty Fellow and professor of education (educational theory and policy) been recognized among the world’s top 1% of scientists based on their number of citations. In addition, Morgan’s work on racial disparities in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is cited in this Insider article.  

·      Jeanine Staples, professor of education (literacies and English language), was invited to participate in the second cohort of the Executive Leadership Academy for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. The Executive Leadership Academy was designed to provide training for a 25-member cohort to accelerate participants’ career progress and advancement and prepare them for executive level and C-Suite positions.
