Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.

Soo-yong Byun, professor of education (educational theory and policy), is co-author of a new article, “Between Light and Shadow: The Contrasting Landscape and Contemporary Development of South Korea’s School System,” in International Handbook on Education Development Asia-Pacific.

Ed Fuller, associate professor of education (educational leadership), is quoted in an article, “No ‘overnight’ solutions: How Pennsylvania leaders plan to solve state’s teacher shortage” by WITF.

Brandy Henry, assistant professor of education (rehabilitation and human services), is lead author of a new article, "Typologies of Stressful Life Events and Their Association With Sexual Risk Behaviors and Communication Among Justice-Involved Males and Their Female Sex Partners" in Aids Education and Prevention.

Research by Paul Morgan, Harry & Marion Eberly Faculty Fellow and professor of education (educational theory and policy), is featured in a report by The Thomas B. Fordham Institute.

Wilson Okello, assistant professor of education (higher education), will be presented with the 2022 Council on Ethnic Participation (CEP) Mildred Garcia Award for Exemplary Scholarship (Junior Scholar), by the Association for the Study of Higher Education. The CEP Mildred Garcia Award recognizes seminal, exemplary scholarship that focuses on research and issues specifically related to underrepresented populations of color. In addition, Okello is lead author of a new article, "You have to know that you know that you know” in Journal of College Student Development.

David Passmore, distinguished professor emeritus of education, answered questions in a Q&A article, “An ethane cracker in western Pa. will soon start up. We answered your questions about it” by StateImpact Pennsylvania. His answers are based on information in his essay, “Questions remain about potential economic impact of soon-to-open Pennsylvania Petrochemicals Complex.”

Kai Schafft, professor of education (educational leadership and rural sociology), was awarded a faculty fellowship for 2023 at the University of Transilvania. The Transilvania Fellowship Programme aims at intensifying the international cooperation, at forming and developing research groups, at promoting new research directions and themes.

María Schmidt, assistant dean for the Office of Education and Social Equity, has been named as one of the 2022 POWER 100 Who’s Who in Latino Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Latino Convention. This list of Latinas and Latinos represents diverse individuals making valuable contributions to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
