Around the College: Sept. 2, 2020

Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.

 Eun Jung Paik, a graduate advisee of Soo-yong Byun, associate professor of education (educational theory and policy) and demography, has been awarded a Philanthropic Educational Organization International Peace Scholarship for the academic year 2020-2021.

—    Erica Frankenberg, professor of education (educational leadership) in the Department of Education Policy Studies, is featured in this NBC News report that found a rise in school racial segregation in 74 of the 100 most populous metro areas in the United States. In addition, Frankenberg has a new article, “The impact and limits of implementing Brown: Reflections from 65 years of school segregation & desegregation in Alabama's largest district,” in Alabama Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review.

—    Beverly Lindsay, professor and senior scientist emerita, was the senior author for the article, "International Diverse Universities in the Midst of a Global Pandemic" in Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. She also served as a mentor for sociology doctoral candidates at the University of Chicago during the annual 2020 Conference of the American Sociological Association. This will continue during the 2020-21 academic year.

—    Kelly Rosinger, assistant professor of education and research associate in the Center for the Study of Higher Education, along with Karly Ford, assistant professor of education (higher education), and Junghee Choi, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Education Policy Studies, have an article, "The Role of Selective College Admissions Criteria in Interrupting or Reproducing Racial and Economic Inequities” in The Journal of Higher Education.
