"College of Education Alumni Updates" highlights career achievements by College of Education alumni.
- Gabriella Achampong, who graduated from the College of Education in May with a bachelor’s degree in education and public policy, is part of the Legal Defense Fund’s fourth 10-person cohort of the NAACP Marshall-Motley Scholars Program (MMSP). In exchange for a full law school scholarship and professional development, scholars commit to devoting the first 10 years of their careers to practicing civil rights law in service of Black communities in the South. Achampong, who plans to attend Harvard Law School in the fall with a focus on civil rights in education, was a co-student marshal for the Spring 2024 commencement.
- Lisa Bass, associate professor at the North Carolina State University College of Education, who received her Ph.D. from Penn State Department of Education Policy Studies, was named president-elect of University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) in November. Bass' doctorate is in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and Comparative and International Education.
- Dhanel Brown, who received a bachelor’s degree in childhood and early adolescent education from Penn State, and is a first-grade teacher at Weems Elementary in Manassas, Virginia, was announced as the division’s Washington Post Teacher of the Year winner during the April 23 meeting of the School Board of the City of Manassas. The Teacher of the Year award, sponsored by The Washington Post annually, recognizes educators around the Washington region who illustrate excellence in their roles, promote exceptional education, and contribute toward student success through their dedication and service.
- College of Education alumni Ethan Humm, Hope Neal, Lindsay Rose and Megan Stoltzfus were featured in a State College Magazine article about former Penn State education majors who are also State College Area High School graduates.
- Hollie Mackey, who received a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Penn State, is now CEO of FARMS (Food Systems Adapted for Resiliency and Maximized Security). This new entity is meant to tap into and expand existing networks and strengths in North Dakota, and offer a platform for new ideas, entrepreneurs, and businesses with the outcome to feed the world.
