Tiffany M. Nyachae, assistant professor of education (literacies and English language) and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, has been awarded a $70,000 grant from the National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship to assist with the fellow’s salary replacement and research expenses for the fellowship period. The review committee, comprised of leading scholars in education research across the country, selected 25 fellows from a pool of 195 education scholars. The fellowships are administered by the National Academy of Education, an honorary educational society, and they are funded by a grant to the Academy from the Spencer Foundation. Nyachae’s research project, "Remembering and (Re)reading Black Girl-Oriented Programs for Multiple Girlhoods and Futures,” examines the impact of Black girl-oriented programs from the perspectives of approximately 70 young adults who participated as youth over a decade ago to understand the impact and possible areas for growth in programs for Black girls, toward their futures, and in approaches to addressing Black girls in education.
