UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.

  • The research of Erica Frankenberg, professor of education (educational leadership and demography), was cited in a Minnesota Supreme Court decision on racial imbalance in Minneapolis and Saint Paul public schools.
  • Maithreyi Gopalan, assistant professor of education and public policy, has been named to the newly formed Advisory and Review Board by the Annenberg Institute at Brown University to shape the future of EdWorkingPapers. In addition, Gopalan and Jilli Jung, a doctoral student in educational policy, were interviewed for "Democracy Works," a podcast by the McCourtney Institute For Democracy, to discuss their new study on whether mandatory civics education leads to increased voter turnout, and what schools can do to strengthen civic engagement. 
  • Brenda Martinez, student advocate specialist in the Office of Education & Social Equity, was recognized in Penn State's "We Are!" feature as one of 13 Penn Staters who have gone above and beyond what’s asked of them in their work at the University.
  • Carlomagno Panlilio, associate professor of education (educational psychology), is co-author of a new paper, “Neglecting to consider early emotional development after abuse and/or neglect: Insights and recommendations from child welfare providers” in Child & Family Social Work.
  • Carlos Zalaquett, professor of education (counselor education), delivered the opening keynote address at the inauguration of the VI Convention of the General Council of Psychology of Spain. He was also presented with a badge and made an honorary member of the General Council of Psychology by the Board Members and President, Francisco Santolaya. You can see both in Spanish around the 49th minute of this video.
