Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.
Janice Byrd-Badjie, associate professor of counselor education, has been selected to serve as an associate editor of the American School Counselor’s scholarly journal, Professional School Counseling — the flagship journal for the profession. In addition, she co-authored a paper, “Situating Critical Qualitative Educational Research: Considerations for Conducting a Literature Synthesis,” recently published in Review of Educational Research.
Erica Frankenberg, professor of education and demography, co-authored a commentary, “Dual Language Immersion Delivers for California’s English Learners,” published by Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE).
Kathleen Mitchell Hill, director of the Center for Science and the Schools and teaching professor of science education, was named a runner-up for the Penn State AI Award for Transformative AI. Hill's work highlights how artificial intelligence can be leveraged thoughtfully to expand educational opportunities and drive meaningful impact.
Gerald K. LeTendre, Harry Lawrence Batschelet II Chair of Educational Administration, wrote an op-ed for the Conversation, “Despite the growth of some AI schools like Alpha, research doesn’t show that AI tutors are better than human teachers.”
Joseph Polizzi, associate teaching professor and director of the World Campus Doctor of Education Program, recently participated in a opportunity, “Interview with Joseph A. Polizzi, Ph.D., About Penn State World Campus' online Doctor of Education (D.Ed.) Program” by Online EdD Programs.
Kari Sherwood, assistant professor of rehabilitation and human services, has been selected for a Penn State Community-Engaged Research, Action and Partnerships (CERAP) seed grant. Sherwood's project, in partnership with the State College Area School District, will explore how to adapt a compassion curriculum to better support neurodivergent high school students.
