Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.
- Jimena Cosso, assistant professor of education (educational psychology), is lead author of a new article, "The Home Numeracy Environment of Latine Families: A Mixed Methods Measurement Development Study," published in Journal of Educational Psychology.
- Erica Frankenberg, professor of education (educational leadership and demography), contributed commentary to a report, “Shaping Tomorrow: Insights from a National Parent Survey on Children’s Racial Learning” by EmbraceRace. Additionally, Frankenberg was interviewed for an article on AL.com, “6 of every 10 Alabama students in high-poverty schools are Black: What experts think should be done.” She is also featured in an article in The Daily Item, “Expert: 70 years later, schools still deeply segregated.”
- Ed Fuller, professor of education (educational leadership), discusses his research in an article by The74, “Teacher Prep Programs See ‘Encouraging’ Growth, New Federal Data Reveal.”
- Brandy Henry, assistant professor of education (rehabilitation and human services), is co-author of an article, “Application of an opioid use disorder cascade of care in a large public health system,” recently published in The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse.
- Elizabeth Hughes, associate professor of education (special education), is lead author of an article, “Exploration of an SRSD Writing Strategy on Students’ Written Expressions of Math Reasoning and SenseMaking,” recently published in the Elementary School Journal. Paul Riccomini, professor of education (special education), is a co-author.
- Kimberly Lawless, dean of the College of Education, co-authored an op-ed in The Philadelphia Inquirer, “Pa. must fully fund effort to solve teaching crisis.”
- Lydia Ocasio-Stoutenburg, assistant professor of education (special education), is lead author of a new article, “Who raised you?: Black women’s indispensable conceptualizations of mothering for theorizing and researching DisCrit” in International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education. Mildred Boveda, associate professor of education (special education) is co-author of the article.
- Joseph Polizzi, director of the World Campus Online Doctor of Education Program and associate teaching professor of education, and his co-author William Frick were recently awarded The Society of Professors of Education Outstanding Book Award for their book, “Understanding Suffering in School. Shining a Light on the Dark Places of Education” published by Routledge.
