Schroeder joined the Penn State faculty in 2018 after earning her doctorate in curriculum, teaching and teacher education at the University of Florida. Before pursuing a career in academia, Schroeder was a middle and high school English and social studies teacher in central Florida and New York City. Her research interests include democratic and citizenship education, pre-service teacher education, media depictions of teachers and teaching, and education activism across various contexts. Her work is published in Gender & Education, Policy Futures in Education and The New Educator. She has numerous book chapters on topics ranging from the Opt Out Movement to depictions of teachers on television.
