Outstanding College of Education alumni, friends selected for annual awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The College of Education Alumni Society recognizes those who have distinguished themselves in their profession. The 2021 Alumni Society honorees are:

Alumni Excellence

Mary Ann Danowitz, 1969 bachelor of arts in political science; 1980 doctor of education in higher education. She is dean of the College of Education and professor of higher education at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Service to Penn State

Harry Kropp, 1963 bachelor of arts secondary education, and Edward Legutko. They are retired teachers from Greenwich Public Schools in Greenwich, Connecticut, who relocated to State College and volunteer in many capacities.

Justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (J.E.D.I.)

Dwayne Kwaysee Wright, 2015 juris doctor Penn State Law; 2015 master of education; 2018 doctorate in higher education. He is assistant professor of higher education administration in the Department of Educational Leadership and director of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Leadership and Service

Thomas Butler, 1991 bachelor of science in secondary education; 2008 doctorate in educational leadership. He is executive director at Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Outstanding Teaching

Jennifer Wahl, 2012 master of education in educational leadership. She is a social studies teacher at Loyalsock Township High School in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Outstanding New Graduate

Alyssa Marchunsky, 2016 bachelor of science in elementary education. She is a third-grade teacher at Pennridge School District in Sellersville, Pennsylvania.
