Anthony Atchley, professor and chair of the Graduate Program in Acoustics, has been named the new associate dean for administration and planning.
Atchley takes over for Larry Burton, who is retiring from the post after 10 years. He will begin serving as associate dean on July 1.
Atchley has been a member of the Penn State faculty since 1997. His research interests include aviation noise, nonlinear acoustics and outdoor sound propagation.
Before coming to Penn State, Atchley was a professor and chair of the Department of Physics at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.
He holds a bachelor of arts in physics from the University of the South, a master of science in physics from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and a doctoral degree in physics from the University of Mississippi.
