University Park, Pa. – Lynn Carpenter, associate professor of electrical engineering, retired from Penn State after more than 35 years of research and teaching at the University.
Carpenter joined Penn State in 1972 as an assistant professor and was a member of the Communications and Space Sciences Laboratory. His research included work in ionospheric physics and radar systems and he specialized in microwave system design, monolithic microwave integrated circuits and computer-aided design.
Carpenter was appointed a senior engineer at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory’s space department during a sabbatical.
He is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has served as a chairman of Central Pennsylvania student activities, student branch counselor, Region 2 director, vice chair of the regional activities board membership operations and chair for admissions and advancement.
Carpenter was awarded the IEEE Millennium Medal in 2001.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in 1964 and his master’s and doctoral degree from the University of Illinois in 1966 and 1971, respectively.
