Three students win Society of Women Engineer awards

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) presented awards to three Penn State students April 17 at the SWE banquet.

Lauren Knobloch, an industrial engineering senior, received the Priscilla Guthrie World-Class Engineer Award. The award provides a $1,000 scholarship for a student who best personifies the characteristics of a "World-Class Engineer," defined as being aware of the world, solidly grounded, technically broad, innovative, effective in teams and successful as a leader.

An honorable mention was given to civil engineering junior Kanupriya Samarendra, who received a $250 scholarship.

Kim Harrison, a mechanical and nuclear engineering senior, received the Nucor Big 11 Scholarship. The award includes a $1,000 scholarship recognizing a student that best personifies the 11 key success factors defined by Nucor Steel, which include integrity, courage, thinking skills, interest in others, listening and communication, fostering teamwork, commitment, accountability and personal responsibility, passion and energy, leadership presence and profitability.
