UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As part of its new Learning and Professional Development portfolio, the Office of Educational Equity is offering "Mentoring Students with Disabilities," an interactive workshop designed to help faculty, staff and graduate assistants strengthen their mentoring practices.
These three-hour sessions engage participants in scenario-based learning that highlights:
- Common barriers students face
- Approaches for implementing accommodations
- Effective communication strategies
- Tools for building inclusive mentoring relationships
“In offering the 'Mentoring Students with Disabilities' workshop, we’re looking to forge a more visible on-campus community of compassionate educators and mentors who are attuned to the unique and diverse needs of students who live with disabilities,” said Jeffery Brown, assistant teaching professor of biobehavioral health, who co-facilitates the workshop. “All students should feel as though they are seen, understood and supported at Penn State.”
